Revision of the OIA Rules.

M Boyce made this Freedom of Information request to University of Manchester

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear University of Manchester,

The Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) has recently informed my MP in writing of the following:

'We recognise that the language of the OIA's Rules is currently quite complex. You may be interested to know that we are in the process of revising the Rules to take account of changes in legislation and we intend to introduce much simpler language and style as part of that process.'

I have asked the OIA in writing whether this process is now under way or not, and whether there will be a public consultation, as required under the provisions of the Higher Education Act 2004, into this revision. The OIA refuse to supply this information, and as they are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act they can do what they like. Universities, like yourself, however, are subject to the FOIA and that is why I am asking you to please supply the following information.

All recorded information that Manchester University holds about this proposed revision of the OIA Rules, given that you are one of the interested parties that should be consulted on this revision.

Yours faithfully,

M Boyce

Lisa Crawley, University of Manchester

Dear Lisa Crawley,

Thanks for your reply.

The OIA, in their rather vague reply to me via my MP, did not make it clear which legislation they were referring to. The legislation is, however, very likely to be the Higher Education and Research Act 2017, rather than the Higher Education Act 2004.

Yours sincerely,

M Boyce

Dear M Boyce

Thank you for your email requesting data relating to the proposed revision
of OIA Rules.

The University confirms that it has not yet received any communication
from the OIA about potential changes to their rules as a result of the
2017 Act and therefore no data is held.
