The request was partially successful.

Marc Owen Jones

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

I am writing respectfully to request the release of a retained section of a report entitled 'Bahrain: Internal Political Situation 1977' - File No. NBB014/1. The National Archives record for this retained extract is FCO 8 2827 Folio 4.

I believe the piece concerns a conversation between DE Tatham and the head of Bahrain's Special Branch. It was dated 1st December 1977

Yours faithfully,

Marc Jones

Dear Mr Jones

I am currently dealing with your recent request for the following
material:

“A retained section of a report entitled 'Bahrain: Internal Political
Situation 1977' - File No. NBB014/1. The National Archives record for this
retained extract is FCO 8 2827 Folio 4”

I have checked The national Archives catalogue and find that FCO 8/2827 -
Internal Political Situation in Yemen Arab Republic (1976) is inconsistent
with your request. Please can you clarify that this is the correct file
reference and title.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Kind Regards

Pete Curtis

Dear Pete,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry about that. I meant FCO 8/2872 and not FCO 8/2827.

I believe the reference to the folio is here http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk...

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Foreign and Commonwealth Office's handling of my FOI request 'Retained Folio on Bahrain Internal Situation 1977'.

Although I am grateful for the FCO's help in dealing with my FOI request,I am unhappy with the decision to refuse the release of the requested document.

Given the recent case against the FCO by Kenyan Mau Mau, I am concerned that important evidence regarding the involvement of British citizens in quashing dissent in Bahrain is being withheld. Please bear in mind that one of the parties involved in this FOI request played an important role in repressing the Mau Mau before going to Bahrain.

I believe it is in the interest of the British public to know the exact extent of British involvement in the potentially nefarious activities used to crush dissent in Bahrain.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/r...

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

More than 40 days have elapsed since I requested an internal review of the refusal to release the documents I requested. Could you please advise?

Yours faithfully,

Marc Owen Jones

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I have messaged the FCO twice with regards to conducting an internal review on an FOI request that was declined. So far I have received no response. Therefore I am writing to the main FCO address. Please find below my original request for an internal review:
