Dear W Tanner,

Freedom of Information Request (our reference FOI20-284)

We refer to your Freedom of Information request dated 24^th June. We
apologise for the delay in responding. In line with government advice, the
University has put in place measures to protect staff and students during
the current Covid-19 pandemic, including staff working from home. We hope
you will appreciate that this has led to some unavoidable disruption and
we regret that we have not been able to respond to requests as quickly as
we would wish.

You requested the following information:

“1. Your institution's policy of transparency reporting for research
grants and other financial support received by academics and scientists,
including the source of such funds in the course of their academic work.
2. Your institution's policy regarding academics' or scientists'
acceptance of research grants or other financial support from foreign
governments or state-sponsored organisations.
3. The number of instances where an academic or scientist has failed to
report the receipt of research grants or other financial support for their
work in the last five years, including the number of times a foreign
government or state-sponsored organisation was involved.”

University’s Response

Further to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the “Act”) we
confirm that the information requested is not held by the University of
Bristol (the “University”).

Academics apply for and receive grants through the University, and as such
do not receive grants in ‘their name’ or as an individual. The University
is the grant holder.

The University has an Outside work policy which requires the academic to
seek approval from their Head of School to undertake such work and carry
it out individually to the University and using their own resources not
the University.

Question 3 is therefore not applicable.

an internal review.  We will aim to respond to your request for an
internal review within 20 working days of receipt.
