Research grants and financial support to academics and scientists

Please could you provide full details of:

1. Your institution's policy of transparency reporting for research grants and other financial support received by academics and scientists, including the source of such funds in the course of their academic work.
2. Your institution's policy regarding academics' or scientists' acceptance of research grants or other financial support from foreign governments or state-sponsored organisations.
3. The number of instances where an academic or scientist has failed to report the receipt of research grants or other financial support for their work in the last five years, including the number of times a foreign government or state-sponsored organisation was involved.

I acknowledge receipt of your email received by this office on 24 June 2020.

Your request will now be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and has been allocated reference FOI20-199 which should be quoted in all correspondence. I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated
24^th June  2020.

For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.

Please could you provide full details of:

 

 1. Your institution's policy of transparency reporting for research
grants and other financial support received by academics and
scientists, including the source of such funds in the course of their
academic work.

 

The University has an Open Access policy which requires authors of outputs
(published papers) to acknowledge the source of grant funding associated
with a research output.

acceptance of research grants or other financial support from foreign
governments or state-sponsored organisations.

 

The University does not have a policy which specifically addresses
acceptance of research grants or other financial support from foreign
governments or state-sponsored organisations. 

 

 3. The number of instances where an academic or scientist has failed to
report the receipt of research grants or other financial support for
their work in the last five years, including the number of times a
foreign government or state-sponsored organisation was involved.

 

Cardiff University does not routinely monitor academic outputs and check
them against any source of funding. The time involved in locating,
searching for and providing the information you have requested would
exceed the time limit (18 hours) allowed under the Freedom of Information
and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. 
Accordingly section 12(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 will
apply. 

 

I trust this information satisfies your enquiry. The University has a
Freedom of Information Complaints Procedure should you feel dissatisfied
with this response or the way in which your request was handled.
Complaints must be made in writing and must set out why you believe the
University has not met its obligations under the Freedom of Information
