Request to see the response provided by West Yorkshire Police to The Telegraph and Argus Bradord/Newsquest

This request has been withdrawn by the person who made it. There may be an explanation in the correspondence below.

Dear West Yorkshire Police,

The newspaper the T&A has today reported a "rise in drone incidents" yet is reporting a figure in 2018 of 135 incidents.

https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/n...

We know already in 2017, that incidents logged with the police with regards to drones was just over 167 as per this response from your office. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/2...

So if the 2018 figure is indeed 135 then drone incidents have fallen. When challenged on this the newspaper is blaming figures from West Yorkshire Police and refusing to divulge the figure they were provided with via FOI for 2017.

To put this matter to rest, I am asking via the FOI, to see the response to drone figures that West Yorkshire police provided to the newspaper for 2017 and 2018.

Yours faithfully,

I Hudson

Dear West Yorkshire Police,

I'm withdrawing this request as I've been provided with the FOI request so I'm looking into why there is a difference.

Yours faithfully,

I Hudson

Dear I. Hudson,

Thank you for your queries received in my office today.

I would like to apologise for any confusion caused by West Yorkshire Police through previous FOI responses. I can confirm that the figures you received in your previous FOI response contained additional information relating to incidents in which a drone may have been mentioned to have been stolen. These incidents do not relate to reports about drones being air-born in any way, or flown in a suspicious manner.

It is for this reason that previous responses, including yours, have been re-worked to reflect the information requested.

In light of this, please advise if you still wish to withdraw your request.

Kind regards

Dear Emily,

I'd like to withdraw this request. But I do need accurate figures and to know how to ask for these in future.

Are you saying the reply to the newspaper had some manual work undertaken to remove "invalid" drone calls and as such are lower figures?

I did send an email to your FOI address yesterday so you can reply to that if you want, otherwise do you want to reply to my original FOI with a revision? I just want to be sure myself and the local news reporters are working from the same dataset then we can debate any interpretation.

Yours faithfully,

I Hudson

Dear I. Hudson,

During one of our most recent drone related FOI requests it was brought to light that there may be some incidents included within responses that were not relevant to answer what requestors were asking. Due to this some FOI's were re-opened to ensure all the information was relevant and up to date, inevitably this has caused some discrepancies between new and previous FOI's.

The link below shows the most recent published information;
https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/site...

In relation to your current ongoing FOI request, a formal response will be issued to yourself this week. This should provide you with all the correct information you require.

Going forward from here all drone FOI's will require a manual read through to ascertain the nature of the report and its relevance to each request.

Kind regards
Emily Dawson
