Request for information on World War 2 Beach Minefields - North East Scotland

Ministry of Defence did not have the information requested.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Please could you supply details of WW2 beach Minefields for North East Scotland. From Aberdeen round the coast to Nairn.

As you hold such information (as advised 27th Jan 2014) Ideally copies maps of the minefields, OR details of the number and types of mines laid )anti tank / anti-personnel.

Based on 1940-46 aerial photographs, information in the National Archives - Kew, and a photographic collection from a Royal Engineer's officer, the locations can already be determined. As most of the locations have now given way to coastal erosion, or been issues with complete clearance certificates, the likelihood of the information giving risk to the public are minimal.

Maps do exist in Kew of Areas Such as Angus, and other locations in Southern England showing the minefield layouts on maps, so some information is already out there. Just not for NE Scotland

Yours faithfully,

Alan Stewart
