Request for details of the Road Safety Shows (Primary & Secondary school children)
Dear Wandsworth Borough Council,
As part of the road safety activities the council undertakes, I understand that the council has 'commissioned customised road safety shows for Primary and Secondary schools in Wandsworth, as well as a show aimed at the elderly'.
Please share the commissioning documents which will no doubt detail the outcomes sought by the council in terms of these shows for both the young and elderly residents of the borough.

I refer to your request for information received on 17/10/2018. Please see
the information below in response to your request: -
As part of the road safety activities the council undertakes, I understand
that the council has 'commissioned customised road safety shows for
Primary and Secondary schools in Wandsworth, as well as a show aimed at
the elderly'.
Please share the commissioning documents which will no doubt detail the
outcomes sought by the council in terms of these shows for both the young
and elderly residents of the borough.
There are no ‘commissioned customised road safety’ shows however, the
Council are engaged in the following activities to raise awareness with
young people.
Primary Schools
• Interactive road safety shows for year 6 students. The show is
designed to raise awareness in pupils of the importance of giving the
roads their full attention and the skills required as a pedestrian.
Teaching materials are also provided to the schools to follow up the
objectives address in the performance / workshops.
• Other shows aimed at various age groups in primary schools. Looking at
the main principals of STOP, LOOK and LISTEN. Different types of
crossings, identifying safer places to cross. Shows are interactive
and meet national curriculum attainment targets.
Secondary Schools / Colleges
• Interactive road safety show for year 7 students. This project was
designed to enable year 7 students to explore issues surrounding
pedestrian safety. Designed in-line with current National Curriculum
guidelines for key stage 3. Teaching materials are also provided to
the schools to follow up the objectives addressed in the performance /
workshops.
• Workshops designed to develop the mind sets and attitudes of young
drivers and passengers, Highlighting the key causes of road traffic
collisions as well as providing the awareness needed to spot hazardous
situations applicable to the new, young and next generation of driver.
This includes driving awareness, speeding, peer pressure,
distractions, smart phones, seat belts etc.
There are currently no activities aimed exclusively at the elderly.
