Dear John

Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.

We have evaluated your request and can confirm that we are unable to provide information in the way you have asked for as to do so would greatly increase the likelihood of individuals being identified. We believe that, to produce information on a line-by-line basis in relation to each student (even if anonymised), is exempt under Section 40 (2) as disclosure would breach data protection regulations because these individuals have a reasonable expectation that their information will not be disclosed.

Please also be aware that the University's policy is not to specify the exact number where figures are less than 10 as to do so would greatly increase the likelihood of individuals being identified, which would breach data protection regulations as these individuals have a reasonable expectation that their personal data will not be released.

Although we recognise that it would be difficult to identify the individuals concerned, under the remits of data protection regulations, we note that personal data constitutes that from which the Data Controller can identify an individual. Therefore there may be other information which you could obtain from the University, either through further Freedom of Information requests or other means, that could be used to identify the individuals here. The risk of this is greatly increased where numbers are less than 10 and it is for this reason that we do not specify such small numbers of individuals. Should an individual be identified then the University would be in breach of data protection regulations.

If you are able to ask for information which would not breach data protection regulations, we would be happy to re-consider your request.

We will respond to your request within twenty working days from the date of receiving the clarification requested.

I hope that this is of help. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any enquiries regarding this email.

Yours sincerely,
Karen Page

Dear Br-Freedom-Of-Information,

Would it be possible to provide the results in 'categories' that include a range of grades?

For example, the data could be presented as follows:
A*A*A*- A*A*A - 15 students
A*AA - AAA - 45 students
AAB - ABB - 56 students
etc.

I'd be more than happy to only receive information on the best three A-levels of students enrolling on this course if that is more convenient for you.

Yours sincerely,

John Dimitroulopoulos
