Request for data on A259 Brighton to Hove NEW cycle lane

The request was successful.

Dear Brighton and Hove City Council,

I previously asked for all data relating to the usage of the NEW cycle lane on the A259 between Brighton and Hove.

I was given limited data for both the pavement cycle lane and the cycle lane on the road combined which was added with the A259 being reduced from 2 lanes to one.

Q1. I am aware that for the majority of the time the new outer (ROAD) cycle lane was temporary the monitoring cameras were out of action. The decision to make this cycle lane permanent appears to have been based solely on 1 week's data in mid summer. Please can you confirm this is true.

It also appears that the data for both the existing (pavement) cycle lane and the new (ROAD) cycle lane were merged into one combined set of data for a previous FoI request, not giving a true view of the temporary addition in its own right, before it was made permanent.

Q2. Please can you supply the data with any periods of recording absence shown from the initial temporary inception of the ROAD based cycle lane through to the latest available date for the now permanent ROAD based cycle lane.

Just to emphasise, this is the data which relates solely to the ROAD based new cycle lane and the request is not only for data recorded, but also for dates where the recording of data was not possible or unsuccessful.

A correct response to this FoI will enable me to assess its treatment for VfM in B&HCC's 2021/22 annual accounts. I therefore request a timely response, given the window for resident comment on the accounts.

Yours faithfully,
Nigel Smith
