Request for data

We're waiting for M Martin to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Charity Commission for England and Wales,

Please find below my FOI,

1. Does the charity commission have count of how many sec 60 charity act 2011 prosecutions have taken place between 1 April - 31st March of the years 2017-2018,2018- 2019? And please provide these numbers?

2. It is accepted that the defaulters list may change periodically hence my request regarding 4 specific dates and years to establish variations and any improvements. How many charities were listed on the defaulters list on 1st April 2017, 1st April 2018, 1st April 2019 and on 17th June 2019?

3. What is the total value of charity income that these defaulters (of 17th June 2019 list only) were managing before going into default?

4. How many of the 17th June 2019 defaulters list are HMRC registered?

5. What is the last recorded total value of the HMRC benefits claimed by the 17th June 2019 defaulters list when they last submitted accounts?

6. How many on this 17 June 2019 defaulters list are still claiming hmrc charity benefits? How many of the 17th June 2019 defaulters list are claiming other local authority business rates benefits?

7. Please provide details of where the Hmrc / local authority benefit amounts claimed are listed in a charity annual accounts? I have reviewed a large number and cannot find this data. Does the charity commission know this data bit does not publish it? Please clarify.

Yours faithfully,

M Martin

Dear Charity Commission for England and Wales,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Charity Commission for England and Wales's handling of my FOI request 'Request for data'.

Firstly I’d like to say thank you for the data provided and your honesty.

However in the absence I remain confused about the defaulters data spreadsheet and what it means....could you provide some further clarity please.

For example: according to the data listed in 2017 there were 8020 charities still in default and 38 now compliant and 25 removed.

By 2018, there were 385 charities in default and 1190 now compliant and 2 removed.

The figures force me to ask what happened to the 8020 defaulters in 2017? By 2018 there were 1190 now compliant (presumably from the 8020 defaulters list?) and 385 charities in default. So there still remains 6830 {or 6830+385} unaccounted for. Are they still in default by 2019? (Not sure if I understand the data!).

It doesn’t make sense unless something has happened in between and the existing default list suggests nothing has. Please could you clarify.

Am I right in thinking that since the defaulters list has now increased to 31,086 there are still many charities being non compliant? The ratio of removal is very low.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/r...

Yours faithfully,

M Martin
