Request for Bat license and bat survey reports - and license to interfere with badger setts by HS2 on Wormwood Scrubs

We're waiting for e thomas to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Natural England,

HS2 Ltd are due to commence clearing of a designated local nature reserve on Wormwood Scrubs in conjunction with the 'stamford brook sewer diversion' in January 2021 and I have reason to believe that they have not undertaken the necessary surveys required by law when the presence of a protected species is known.

1. Please could you confirm whether or not you have issued HS2 Ltd with a license allowing them or their contractors to conduct work on trees or structures with bat roosts in them on Wormwood Scrubs in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham?

2. If you have issued a license previously: Could you confirm when the last license expired and; if there is a current license, when this is valid from and until?

3. Could you please provide me with a copy of any protected species license that Natural England have issued allowing HS2 to conduct damaging or destructive work on trees and buildings in the area surrounding Wormwood Scrubs in the London borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

4. Could you confirm if HS2 Ltd will be operating illegally if they fail to have a valid license while damaging or destroying trees, habitats or structures with bats roosting in them?

5. Could you also clarify the time of year in which bat surveys must be carried out in order to obtain the correct bat license from Natural England; and the number of surveys required?

6. Could you please tell me if it is necessary for HS2 ltd or its contractors to send bat survey reports to Natural England to ensure that they are carrying out work ethically and/or legally.

7. Additionally; there are badgers inhabiting the land that has been marked for clearing - can you clarify whether licenses to exclude, close or destroy badger setts on wormwood scrubs have been issued; and if so - would this license permit works to take place in January 2021?

Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

E Thomas
