Dear Ms Kennedy

Thank you for your communication received on 03/08/2014 where you
requested the following information in respect of the external security
personnel employed at the cabinet meeting on 31/07/2014:

1. The reasons for bringing in external security.
The reason for bringing in external security is to effectively manage the
often large numbers of people that wish to attend Council meetings. The
Council Chamber has 42 seats and so limiting entry to 42 people in order
to maintain the health and safety of the public could not be carried out
by the regular security staff on duty. Members of the public have to be
supervised at all times when in the building after hours and again this
could not be done without the assistance of external security staff.  This
is a particular issue when using the Council’s overflow room.

2. The cost to the council of this security.
£12.00 per hour excluding VAT.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter and should be addressed to: Information Request Assessor,
Thanet District Council, P O Box 9 Cecil Street, Margate Kent CT9 1XZ, or
send an email to [email address].

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future
communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
