The request was successful.

Rachael Venables

Dear Bedfordshire Police,

I wish to know the number of reports you have received of alleged crimes by serving officers in the past three years (1st May 2019 to 30th April 2022)?

For each report please list:
1. The alleged offence
2. Rank of the officer accused
3. Whether the offence was investigated
4. The outcome (accusation proven or not, any criminal proceedings, disciplinary actions taken, and whether they are still serving?)

Yours faithfully,

Rachael Venables

Misconduct hearing - Chief Inspector Jamie Langwith

'b(viii): The panel determined that this incident was specifically referred to by Ms A during her credible video evidence. The panel considered that Ms A had provided a detailed account of how the former officer had pressured her into meeting up with her ex-boyfriend, Mr D, culminating in her having oral and penetrative sex in a car with him with an open telephone line to the former officer, so that he could listen. The panel had noted that Mr D had provided a witness statement in which he had said that the sexual encounter took place and he had been unaware of the circumstances including the open telephone line. Decision: Proven p33

Decision: Proven with the amended allegation to read: The Officer decided that he Would like to hear Ms A have sex with Mr E. As a result, Ms A invited Mr E to her home address. She performed oral sex upon him whilst the phone line was open and the Officer listened. Mr E was unaware of this and would not have agreed to it.' p34

'I have carefully read all of the evidence in the bundle for this matter, and note that the former officer has plead guilty in the criminal court to the offences of :

1. Inciting Sexual Exploitation of a Child;
2. Arranging the Sexual Exploitation of a Child;
3. Abduction of a Child in Care and
4. Doing an Act Tending and Intended to Pervert the Court of Public Justice

In terms of aggravating factors, it is clear this officer knew that this victim was vulnerable, and that he knew that his conduct was criminal and serious and I find the officers attempts to destroy evidence of his criminal actions.'

'The Police Officer was dismissed for breaching the standards of professional behaviour relating to Honesty and Integrity, Duties and Responsibilities and Discreditable Conduct after failing to carry out his duties in refusing to make enquiries regarding a violent incident he and his two probationer officers were deployed to stating he wanted to get food, and then lied to force control by stating they had made the necessary enquiries.'

Misconduct hearing pub. 8/11/24 - Jake Wood

'The incident he was deployed to was in my opinion one of high threat and risk to the public involving individuals with weapons. PC Wood failed to complete the basic enquiries reasonably expected of an officer in the circumstances. He ignored the prompts of a colleague to take the right action concerning an address where a potential offender was. He then subsequently lied to the control room concerning the action he had taken and in doing mislead the control room as to the nature of the potential threat. These actions left the public unprotected and could have led to serious consequences. The actions of PC Wood could have potentially compromised junior colleagues had they not reported his behaviour. The conduct of PC Wood would undoubtedly impact upon operational effectiveness, confidence and trust. I therefore find the culpability of PC Wood to be high.'
