Replacement of local jobcentre phone numbers with non-geographical (0845)

Matthew Abbott made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

As I'm sure you are aware all local jobcentre plus phone numbers (i.e Worcester was 01905 684600) have been replaced with non-geographical 0845 lo-call phone numbers. This presents a huge problem for people who are unable to attend appointments or those who are running late. Calls to these numbers are up to 50 pence per minute from mobile phones, This is obviously not affordable to people on benefits.

Under the freedom of information act i request:

1) Information on why the decision was taken to change to 0845 numbers
2) Information on any pubic survey that may have been done with regards to this matter and the results of those surveys.

Yours faithfully,

Matthew Abbott
