Renew BNO within the UK

HM Passport Office did not have the information requested.

Dear HM Passport Office,

I was born in Hong Kong before 1997 and therefore I have two expired child British National Overseas Passports. As I have been living in the UK for the past few years, I have been wanting to renew my BNO. However, I could only find information about renewing within Hong Kong. Could you be able to instruct me if by any chance I could achieve this within the UK? Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
Ms Mok

To my understanding, it is no different than renewing any other British passports within the UK, other than that you have to send in the *original* copy of your HKID card in addition to the typical required documents applicable for other British passport types. If you lost your HKID card, you'll have to get a new one in Hong Kong. You may want to note that the countersign requirements when applying within the UK are very strict, compared to applying overseas (e.g. in Hong Kong) so you might want to make sure there is someone to countersign your application before applying.

You can start by following the online application procedure: https://www.gov.uk/apply-renew-passport
