Paul W Sullivan

Dear Ministry of Justice,

In a Written Answer on 15.6.20

https://www.parliament.uk/business/publi...

Lucy Frazer stated:

“The Ministry of Justice has secured appropriate funding for a time-limited period to support the provision of accommodation for all individuals released from prison during this period, who are at risk of homelessness. The temporary accommodation scheme will run until 26th June at which point it will be reviewed, taking account of the situation at that time.”

There was never any public announcement of this scheme, even though it is clearly a discrete scheme of the kind the MoJ would normally announce.

1. Please will you release under FOIA 2000 whatever briefing note the Ministry holds on the scheme, as was cleared by ministers, or prepared for the Treasury, or prepared for the director of communications. I would expect such a briefing note, prepared before the scheme took effect, to include:

- the name of the scheme

- its start date

- the rationale for introducing it

- the amount of funding committed to it

- the source of that funding

- what kind of additional accommodation was being provided; hotel rooms, bed and breakfast, private rented properties, etc.?

- the forecast for the number of people likely to be helped.

2. Please will you also release any impact assessments that were carried out ahead of this scheme being introduced.

3. Please will you also release your most up-to-date figures for the number of ex-prisoners who have been provided with accommodation under the scheme since it began, broken down if possible by gender and type of accommodation, and the actual cost to date.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Paul W Sullivan
