Vale of Glamorgan Council

Dear D Hughes

Thank you for your request for information on 31st March about:
Relationship and Sexuality Education curriculum

Please see the responses to your questions below:

Please advise the name and address of the education advice and support
consortium engaged by your organisation in its capacity as LEA.
CSC details:
CSCJES, Valleys Innovation Centre, Navigation Park, Mountain Ash,
Abercynon, CF45 4SN
[email address]
CSC provide professional learning and support for schools in the region on
RSE in Curriculum for Wales.

Please advise if your maintained schools have been recommended to adopt
any model Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) policy provided by
the consortium or whether schools have developed their own local policies.
Please provide details of each school.
There has been no recommended model policy for RSE. Instead, schools in
the Vale of Glamorgan have been advised to follow the Welsh Government
Code for RSE and they are guided to the following Welsh Government
resources on Hwb:
Relationships and sexuality education playlist - Hwb (gov.wales)
A new curriculum in Wales: a guide for parents - Hwb (gov.wales)
Cross-cutting themes for designing your curriculum - Hwb (gov.wales) (Link
to the RSE Code and the statutory guidance)

Please advise if your maintained schools have adopted curriculum materials
for teaching and learning on RSE supplied by third parties including
consortia or if they have written their own. Please provide details of
each school.
The local authority does not hold this information.

Please provide the lesson plans and teaching materials on gender identity,
sexuality, sex, and pornography, including but not limited to lessons that
are given as part of the RSE curriculum to any year group at your schools.
This may be in the form of written documents, PowerPoint presentations,
photographs, sound or video recordings, definitions and glossaries, and
any books or leaflets available to pupils. It also includes resources not
used strictly within the RSE curriculum but that cover the below subjects,
for example assemblies, awareness weeks, or material embedded into other
parts of the curriculum. It includes teaching and lesson plans touching on
gender identity, gender reassignment, gender/sex transition,
detransitioning, transgender issues, non-binary, sex-as-a-spectrum, gender
or sex stereotypes, sexual identities, sexual orientation, puberty, and
pornography.
The local authority does not hold this information.
Schools are expected to share on their websites a summary of their adopted
curriculum, including RSE. Over time, schools will also be able to provide
examples of lesson plans and resources to support the delivery of the
adopted curriculum.
Welsh Government RSE statutory guidance, which all schools are legally
required to consider, emphasises the importance of schools engaging with
parents about RSE. Schools are encouraged to communicate proactively with
parents and carers on an ongoing basis. We ask that parents engage schools
respectfully and consider carefully what schools are proposing to teach.
In turn, if you have particular concerns about specific aspects of a
school’s proposals, then you should raise these concerns with the school
straight away.

We also request to see any resources used for staff training on the above
topics.
As above - the local authority does not hold this information.

Please also disclose whether any of these materials are written or
delivered by third-party organisations, and if so, who they are and what
the fees are.
As above - the local authority does not hold this information.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter and should be addressed to: The Monitoring Officer, Civic
Offices, Holton Road, Barry, CF63 4RU.

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future
communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.
