Registers of Interests Executive Board, Council Members and Co Opted Members.

The request was refused by General Medical Council.

Dear General Medical Council,

On examining the Registers of Interests for the Executive Board, Council Members and Co Opted Members, I note that none of these people declare in interest in Freemasonry, or The Eastern Star. Is it a requirement that membership of these organisations should be declared?

Given that there have been concerns over the influence of Freemasonry in the GMC and with doctors generally, does the GMC require any information from the above in connection with this? Does it hold any sort of register, official, or unofficial, of such people who are Freemasons?

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/d...

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po...

According to The Independent, GMC Members would be required to declare if they were members of Freemasonry. Did this ever happen?

Yours faithfully,

John Golding

There are reports of members etc of the GMC having to declare interests of Freemasonry:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/125690...

https://freemasonrywatch.org/GMC.html

In the latest Register of Interests there is no mention of Freemasonry in any of the interests declared. Why is this?

Dear General Medical Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of General Medical Council's handling of my FOI request 'Registers of Interests Executive Board, Council Members and Co Opted Members.'.

Thank you for your response dated 16 September 2022.

The information you have provided is at odds with statements and media coverage which was posted in an annotation to the request. I shall copy them here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/125690...

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article...

https://freemasonrywatch.org/GMC.html

Please review the responses you have provided in the light of the above sites which state quite categorically the GMC is required to declare people who are members of Freemasonry. Since you state they do not why is this?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/r...
