Regent's Park to West Hampstead Quietway construction

We're waiting for Mrs K McYarnington to read a recent response and update the status.

Mrs K McYarnington

Dear Transport for London,

In response to Mayoral Question ref 2018/2977 “Quietways 1” (see https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2018... the Mayor of London responded on 27 November 2018 stating that:
“I have provided you with a list below of start and end points of Quietway routes that have had sections constructed since I came into office, along with the combined length in kilometres. ‘Built’ means sections of the route that have been completed and signposted so that they can form part of the Quietway network.”

The list includes “Route Section” “Regent's Park to West Hampstead”, “Km built” “1.4”.

Could you please provide me with information showing what works and/or signposting have taken place on this 1.4km? Please include the locations of the works and/or signposting, so I can understand where this 1.4km is.

Could I also request a schedule showing when any outstanding works and/or signposting will be completed on this route in City of Westminster and London Borough of Camden?

Yours faithfully,

Mrs K McYarnington

Dear Mrs McYarnington

TfL Ref: FOI-2775-1819

Thank you for your email received on 18 January 2019 asking for
information about Quietways. I apologise for the delay in replying to you.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You
asked:

In response to Mayoral Question ref 2018/2977 “Quietways 1” (see
[1]https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2018... the Mayor of London
responded on 27 November 2018 stating that:

“I have provided you with a list below of start and end points of Quietway
routes that have had sections constructed since I came into office, along
with the combined length in kilometres. ‘Built’ means sections of the
route that have been completed and signposted so that they can form part
of the Quietway network.” The list includes “Route Section” “Regent's Park
to West Hampstead”, “Km built” “1.4”.

Could you please provide me with information showing what works and/or
signposting have taken place on this 1.4km? Please include the locations
of the works and/or signposting, so I can understand where this 1.4km is.

In response to Mayor’s Question (ref. 2018/5135) on 20 December 2018, I
issued a table which made clearer which sections of Quietway had
signposting installed.

The 1.4km Regent’s Park to West Hampstead section has been constructed,
but has not yet been signposted.

Figure.1 below shows the 1.4km section of the Regent’s Park to West
Hampstead route that has been constructed. It should be noted that for a
section of route to be classified as constructed it needs to meet a
suitable level of quality for cycling.

Quietway routes generally use quiet residential streets. Therefore,
changes are not normally needed on every street on a route for them to
become a Quietway.

In the case of the Regent’s Park to West Hampstead section, the first
improvement scheme needed to make the route suitable for cycling was on
the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) at the junction of Finchley
Road and Boundary Road in the London Borough of Camden, as shown in figure
1.

Figure. 2 below shows the scheme that was implemented in 2016. Full
details of the scheme are at
[2]https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/cycling....
This change now means that cyclists can cycle from Regent’s Park to the
junction of Loudon Road/Alexandra Road as shown by figure 1, therefore
this 1.4km section of route is classified as “constructed”.

When further improvement schemes along the route are implemented, more
sections of the route will be classified as constructed. When all of the
planned schemes along the route have been delivered, the route will be
signposted and classified as “completed”.

constructed scheme

location of improvement scheme.

Figure 2. Summary of Finchley Road crossing improvements taken from TfL
consultation report.

Could I also request a schedule showing when any outstanding works and/or
signposting will be completed on this route in City of Westminster and
London Borough of Camden?

There are currently no plans to implement further improvement schemes in
the City of Westminster (between Regent’s Park and Finchley Road). Within
London Borough of Camden (between Finchley Road and West Hampstead), the
route alignment and improvement plans are currently under review.
Therefore, a schedule of outstanding works and/or signposting is not
currently available.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal.

Yours sincerely
