Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,
I wish to know how many refugees/asylum seekers have been taken in/housed within the borough since the end of March 2020 to date.
Dear Mr Toone
We write in response to your FOI enquiry in which you asked: “I wish to
know how many refugees/asylum seekers have been taken in/housed within the
borough since the end of March 2020 to date.”
Wirral Council can advise as follows.
Since March 2020, no refugees have been placed in homes in Wirral through
the Home Office resettlement programme. There has been no unaccompanied
asylum seeking children.
For those individuals who are seeking asylum in the UK, the Home Office
currently have a contract in place with a number of private organisations
whose role is to meet the accommodation and essential living needs of
eligible asylum seekers and to provide a range of services to those
individuals. For the Wirral area, which is part of the North West of
England, the contract the Home Office have in place is with SERCO and they
also cover the Midlands and East of England. This is not a role that
Wirral Council undertakes so we hold no information regarding placements
made under that contract.
You may wish to make a request directly to the Home Office:
