Refugees in Aberdeen

The request was successful.

Dear Aberdeen City Council,

I am wondering how many refugees from Syria, and/or people in nearby countries who are regarded as refugees, the City of Aberdeen has taken in between the time of January 2015 and October 2016.

Have these refugees been accommodated somewhere, and how has this been funded?

Looking forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,
Alexandra Turku

Dear Ms Turku,

Thank you for your information request of 2 November 2016.  Aberdeen City
Council (ACC) has completed the necessary search for the information
requested.

I am wondering how many refugees from Syria, and/or people in nearby
countries who are regarded as refugees, the City of Aberdeen has taken in
between the time of January 2015 and October 2016.

There is currently only one dispersal site in Scotland for asylum seekers
and this is in Glasgow.  Once asylum seekers are granted leave to remain,
they are free to move to anywhere in the UK they wish.

Aberdeen City is part of the Syrian Resettlement Programme and between the
dates specified, has resettled 51 Syrian refugees in Aberdeen.

Have these refugees been accommodated somewhere, and how has this been
funded?

Syrian refugees accommodated under the Syrian Resettlement Programme have
been placed in accommodation in Aberdeen’s Private Sector Leasing Scheme.
The programme is fully funded by the Home Office.

We hope this helps with your request.

Yours sincerely,

Nicky Leiper
