Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,
I wish to know have you taken in, or are taking in, any Migrants from Africa?
Whilst many neighbouring Borough's are taking in a fair share I wish to know the numbers of how many (if any) have been housed and made homes in the Borough & what future plans are in place to increase this.
Dear Mr Toone,
Thank you for your recent FOI request regarding migrants, where you asked
the below, answers are provided underneath each question for your
Have you taken in, or are taking in, any Migrants from Africa?
Wirral Council does not maintain records on all migrants who are currently
living in the borough or their country/continent of origin. I would advise
that the Office for National Statistics publishes the results of its
Annual Population Survey, which includes estimates of numbers of residents
who are not British, and who were born outside of the United Kingdom. The

Wirral participates in the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme
in conjunction with the other Liverpool City Region Local Authorities.
For this programme, no migrants have been placed in the borough who are
originally from Africa.
In terms of Asylum Seekers, in response to Central government requirement
to increase the number of local authorities who participate in Asylum
Seeker dispersal, the Local Authorities in the Liverpool City Region
agreed with the Home Office their participation in the Asylum dispersal
scheme in 2015. For its part, Wirral committed to 30 properties which
would house up to 100 individuals. This programme is managed on behalf of
the government by a private organisation (SERCO) that source, place and
support Asylum Seekers in dispersed accommodation throughout the borough,
whilst a decision is being made about individuals leave to remain in the
country. Wirral Council does not make referrals in to this initiative;
Asylum Seekers are referred into the programme by the government. You
would need to contact SERCO directly for this information.
I trust you are fully satisfied with our response and hope the information
we have provided you with, will be of use to you.
