Referrals to and from the University Counselling Service and intermission- and sabbatical-year counselling
Dear University of Cambridge,
I have three queries, all relating to the University Counselling Service (henceforth referred to as the UCS).
In all cases my request encompasses both the student counselling service and the staff counselling service. I have no preference as to whether the data on these services are given separately or together.
My request concerns only the academic year 2016-17.
As I hope the wording of the requests makes clear, I would like all data to be fully anonymised. In the case of my first and third queries I would like a single figure in response, or at most two figures if a breakdown by service category (student/staff) is convenient. In response to my second query I would like one figure per category of reasons for referral.
[1] How many times did the UCS write and send a referral to the National Health Service on behalf of a UCS service user? This includes any referrals made to a General Practitioner. It excludes any kind of recommendation (or 'signposting') made to the service user regarding a service outside the UCS where the UCS did not specifically and actively contact said external service on behalf of the service user, or in which the service user was expected initiate contact with said external service. Please count all referrals actively offered to a UCS service user regardless of any response to said referral by the service user or by the National Health Service.
[2] Could the UCS provide a breakdown of student and staff reasons for referral to the UCS in the academic year 2016-17? Reasons for referral should be grouped into broad categories such that the data are rendered completely anonymous by two principal means: (a) that the category headings are sufficiently vague as to cover large numbers of referrals (such as "family and relationship issues", "academic pressure" or "specific learning difficulties") and (b) that the number of referrals in each category be sufficiently large that specific individuals or groups are impossible to identify.
[3] How many sessions of counselling were offered by the UCS to intermitting students and to staff taking sabbatical leave? To clarify, please include data only where the date of the session/s offered fell within the intermission or sabbatical year of the student or staff member. Again, please count all appointments offered to a student or staff member regardless of whether or not said offer was accepted.
Yours faithfully,
Jay Richardson

The penultimate sentence of question 1 should read "[...] or in which the service user was expected *to* initiate contact with said external service."
