Redrafting of Fiona Woolf's letters regarding relationship to Leon Brittan

Tom Young made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Home Office,

in light of recent revelations regarding IPCC investigations into failure to investigate VIP child abuse, the following questions seem prudent:

a) Does the IPCC have the authority to investigate the Home Office (being as the Home Office oversees the Police )?

b) The IPCC is probing whether police investigations into Leon Brittan were halted... if this was indeed the case, surely the Home Office should also be investigated given Leon Brittan's position?

c) Why were Fiona Woolf's letters regarding Leon Brittan redrafted to play down the relationship?

d) Who advised Fiona Woolf on the redrafting of letters and on whose behalf did they do so?

Yours faithfully,

Tom Young

Dear FOI Requests,

Whilst I appreciate the campaign for the general election affects MPs and the political parties, as I understand, the true workers who make things happen, civil servants, remain in place, continuing to lubricate the innards of the government machine with their wondrous efficiency.

As a caseworker has been appointed to my request, I'm somewhat surprised that a response has yet to arrive, especially as since, by law, the authority should normally have responded promptly and by 5 May 2015.

Please investigate the delay and expedite your response

Yours sincerely,

Tom Young

Dear FOI Requests,

Many thanks for your reply, if possible I'd appreciate a touch more clarity:

When you say 'The Solicitor to the Independent Panel Inquiry' is there just the one?

If so, has it been the same person throughout?

Thanks again

Yours sincerely,

Tom Young
