Redditch Public Library

The request was partially successful.

Dear Redditch Borough Council,

INTRODUCTION
It has been widely reported, for example in the Redditch Standard newspaper, that
Councillor Matt Dormer wants to demolish the current library building in the Market Place and re-locate the library to the Town Hall in Walter Stranz Square.

Matt Dormer is the current leader of Redditch Borough Council, and is also a Cabinet member in Worcestershire’s County Council with Responsibility for Communities which includes LIBRARIES.

QUESTIONS

(i) What is the estimated cost to demolish the library building in The Market Place?

(ii) The Town Hall is owned by Redditch Borough Council.
What is the estimated cost of converting the Town Hall (or part of it) to create a properly designed library facility?

(iii) What is the estimated cost of moving books, documents, equipment etc. from the current building to a future location [for example the Town Hall] if Councillor Dormer’s plan is approved?

Thank you

Yours faithfully,

Philip Bladon
(and colleagues)

Dear P Bladon,

Thank you for your recent Information request. I can now offer you the
following information:

The Library Project is part of a suite of projects that have been
considered and agreed through the Redditch Town Deal.  The project was
included within the Town Investment Plan and prioritised and signed off by
the Town Deal Board.  More information regarding the Town Deal, including
the Town Investment Plan, is available to view on the dedicated website:
 [1]Redditch Town Deal

The overall project is anticipated to cost £4.2m and all costs associated
with delivering the project will be further refined as part of the
Business Case development stage of the Town Deal. The Council has 12
months to work up a 5 stage Business Case with a summary document being
submitted in Spring/Summer 2022 and further announcements will be made in
due course.

I hope this resolves your enquiry and that you are satisfied with the
response.

However, if you are dissatisfied with the way your request has been
