Recycle Collection Modalities

Gwen Swinburn made this Freedom of Information request to North Yorkshire Council Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

We're waiting for Gwen Swinburn to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear North Yorkshire Council,

I saw in the media you are moving to a 1+2 recycle bin collection regime across the entire County.

We in York are still using three small boxes where paper and card have to be folded to fit in one bix, and glass tin plastic go in the others. This results in significant lifting from crews, much contaminated recycling and an inordinate amount of blown waste.

There appears a reluctance to change for fear of cost and some terraced roads would be addressed if they have neither front nor back yards ( a small number).

In order to push it up the agenda could you please provide the research and background reports and public ones that address the choices made and dismissed and the estimated costs of the changeover ( total and per household and time scale) also how your alternative arrangements are made for any premises unable to hold bins?

Is this system the same as ERidibg?

Are you aware of any councils who have gone from boxes to bins by any chance.

Thank you

Yours faithfully,

Gwen Swinburn

and the presentations are attached, document refs 24.06.05 Members Seminar
and 24.10.02 Members Seminar.

Also, how your alternative arrangements are made for any premises unable
to hold bins?

We estimate that around 10% of properties in North Yorkshire currently
receive ‘non-standard’ waste collection services at present, such as sacks
or communal bins.  This is due to a combination of restricted vehicle
access and / or limited outdoor storage space. A detailed assessment will
be undertaken by the council prior to service changes in each locality, to
understand which properties are able to accommodate two recycling bins,
and which properties require alternative provision. Housing types differ
by locality and the Council is committed to delivering a tailored service
to reflect bespoke requirements.

Is this system the same as East Riding?

Information about collections in the East Riding can be found on their
website
[8]https://www.eastriding.gov.uk/environmen...

Are you aware of any councils who have gone from boxes to bins by any
chance.

The council does not hold this information.

Please find attached the council’s information governance appeals
procedure for your information. Please remember to quote the reference
number above in any future communications.
