Recruitment Premia Payments

The request was partially successful.

Dear South West Strategic Health Authority,

Does the SHA hold information showing the retention premia paid to each SWSHA Executive Director on the new cluster South of England SHA board from October 2011 to March 2012?

Please also supply details of the number of staff, excluding Directors, and the total paid to staff as retention premia in 2011/12.

Can the SHA also say which SHA was responsible for the recruitment process of the new cluster Executive Directors?

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Gerry Hallright

Humphrey Gillian (NHS South West), South West Strategic Health Authority

Dear Mr Hallright

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request, received 17 August 2012, in which you requested information relating to retention premia. For clarity, this response is in addition to the SHA Cluster response previously sent to you from South East Coast Strategic Health Authority and is made on behalf of NHS South of England, which is comprised of the South Central, South East Coast and the South West Strategic Health Authorities. You requested the following information:

Does the SHA hold information showing the retention premia paid to each SCSHA Executive Director on the new cluster South of England SHA board from October 2011 to March 2012?

The information requested is included in Executive Director salary details, this information is published in the NHS South of England Annual Report 2011/12 and is available via this link to the NHS South of England website: http://www.southofengland.nhs.uk/about-u...

Please also supply details of the number of staff, excluding Directors, and the total paid to staff as retention premia in 2011/12.

The number of staff, excluding Directors, who have received retention premia in 2011/12 is 23. The total paid was £79,730.20.

Can the SHA say which SHA was responsible for the recruitment process of the new cluster Executive Directors?

The recruitment process for the Executive Directors of NHS South of England was co-ordinated between the three Strategic Health Authorities (South East Coast, South Central and South West) and the Department of Health. The Chairs of the three SHAs and the Chief Executive Designate of NHS South of England, Sir Ian Carruthers OBE, sat on each appointments panel with Department Health directors.

I hope that your request has been satisfactorily answered, but I should be pleased to offer any further assistance.

Dear Graham Groves,

thank you for the 17th September FOI reply.
There is one item I would be grateful if the SHA can review its answer.
I requested information about retention premia paid to Exec Directors between October 2011 and March 2012 in the period since the formation of the cluster SHA.

I have looked at the 2011/12 annual reports, but cannot find any information detailing the retention payments.

In a similar FOI request, the SESHA provided the following information.

FOI 612, 12th July
Recruitment and retention premia payments made to NHS South of England executive directors from 1 October 2011 to 31 March 2012
Chief Operating Officer 0-5
Director of Corporate Affairs 5-10

I would also like to request information about how many applicants there were for each of the CLuster SHA Executive posts.

Yours sincerely,

Gerry Hallright
