Recruitment of a reiki healer
Dear United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust,
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act (2000). Much of the request relates to this job at ULHT: https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/xi/vacancy/91613...
1 The reiki healer position currently advertised (as of 8/9/20) at ULHT is being recruited as a permanent role. Has the Sam Buxton Sunflower Healing Trust committed to funding this role in perpetuity? Or for how many years is it funding this post? (This should be detailed in your contract with them.)
2 Who is funding all on-costs (including but not limited to recruitment, induction, training, supervision etc)? If these are being funded by the Sam Buxton Sunflower Healing Trust, for how many years are such costs being met?
3 Please provide a list of all complementary and alternative (CAM) healers employed or working in your Trust, with their name, job title, name of ward/unit, salary band & name of organization funding the post.
4 Which of the CAM posts above have access to clinical data, teach other staff (mentioned in job spec) and participate in MDT meetings?
5 Please provide all documentation relating to the creation of the reiki healer position currently being advertised. I understand that third party personal data will be redacted. Please ensure that this includes correspondence relating to the change in online advertised job title (I believe on 8/8/20) from ‘Spiritual Healer / Reiki Healer’ to ‘Charity Funded Reiki Therapist’.
6 The post was advertised online as a ‘Spiritual healer /Reiki Healer’. Please provide any documentation (policies, meeting minutes etc) about ‘spiritual healers’ being appointed by ULHT, or working in ULHT, that operate outside of your Chaplaincy Service/recognised religions. Was your Chaplaincy Service aware this role was being created and if so did they approve?
7 Please provide all documentation (policies, procedures, correspondence etc) within your trust regarding the use, endorsement and promotion of complementary and alternative medicine. (I am also interested in establishing whether all parties involved are aware that reiki is not indicated by NICE for any condition and is not evidence-based. Please be aware that the Sam Buxton Sunflower Trust promotes other CAM, such as chakra healing.)
8 Please name all ULHT staff who approved/signed off on the creation of this post, including name, job title and salary band. Were the oncologists (doctors) involved in this decision?
9 Does ULHT have a policy about the use of the terms ‘therapist’ and ‘healer’ in job titles? I am surprised that you are using these terms in contexts where there is no scientific evidence of their efficacy.
10 In the National Occupational Standards (developed with one of the founders of the Sam Buxton Sunflower Healing Trust) that your reiki healer is required to have qualified at, reiki is claimed to provides ‘physical healing’. I believe that employing a reiki practitioner to provide physical healing on a cancer ward is contrary to the Cancer Act (1939).
I am one of several local people concerned about this role whose attention was drawn to it by the Humanists on 7th August. Please make it clear in your response if any of the documents have been created or amended on or after 7th August.
If answering these questions is likely to take up more than the specified time, then please contact me by email so that I can modify the request.
