I am writing in response to your request for an internal review into the
responses to your initial request of the 2 January 2022.

Background: Your request, under the Freedom of Information Act, was sent
to the College’s Information Officer, who is the Bursar of the College (Mr
Chris Wood). Your questions related to information held on the recruitment
and retention of British Muslims, Mr Wood’s response was “We do not
monitor employees' ethnicity or religious beliefs and I am therefore
unable to answer your questions” (4 January 2022 at 8.52am).

Your internal review (issued on 4 January at 10.13am) requested that we
“review whether you hold this information”.

Investigation: I have discussed the response given by Mr Wood with him
directly, and importantly asked for the basis of his responses. I have
also questioned the HR manager of the College. In addition I am closely
involved in the recruitment of the College’s academic members of staff and
my own Academic Office staff. I can confirm that the College does not hold
information on the ethnicity or religious beliefs of current members of
staff, either academic or non-academic. The College does collect anonymous
recruitment monitoring data from applicants for our staff vacancies, which
included details of protected characteristics, but as it is not compulsory
to submit these data, these records can be incomplete and are destroyed
after 12 months (this is the limit that the College can hold this
information under its GDPR policy).

Findings of the internal review: With due consideration of the responses
gained from my investigation, I find that the answers provided by the
Bursar to be correct. I therefore consider his handling of the matter to
be entirely appropriate.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of this internal review you have
right to appeal to the Information Commissioner.
