Dear Rabyah,
We do not routinely store such information for our employees. While we do
undertake equal opportunities monitoring as part of our recruitment
processes, information provided is on a  on a voluntary basis, and in any
case does not include any reference to religion. The data is also
discarded after six months.
Unfortunately therefore, we do not have the information that you have
requested.
With kind regards,
Jamie Clark

Dear Hertford College, Oxford,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Hertford College, Oxford's handling of my FOI request 'Recruitment and retention: British Muslims'.

Please review the information you can provide.

How many British Pakistanis have you recruited since 2010?

How many have held media/communications roles?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/r...

Yours faithfully,

Dear Rabyah,
I write to acknowledge receipt of your request for an internal review.
However, the questions you have set out below are not the same as the
questions that you originally presented. The original questions related to
British Muslims, and we responded on that basis.
We are therefore unclear as to the nature of your request, and would be
grateful if you could clarify this for us. Specifically, are you seeking a
review of the original request, or are you intending to submit new
questions? If the latter, then we would consider this a new request rather
than an Internal Review, and will of course consider that, and respond,
accordingly.
With kind regards,

Dear Rabyah,

I write in response to your request for an Internal Review concerning our
handling of your Freedom of Information request originally dated
1 February.

You asked:  1. How many British Muslim employees have you recruited?
Please provide figures for every year since 2010.

Hertford have not collated or routinely retained this information beyond
the initial equal opportunity monitoring assessment that have taken place
after each recruitment campaign.  The equal opportunity monitoring form
does not ask the question about religion, but it does ask for nationality.
Paper based and electronic recruitment documents are destroyed 6 months
after the successful placement of a candidate.  Our HRIS/Payroll system
prior to April 2021 was not capable of holding any equality and diversity
information. The new HRIS/Payroll system installed in April 2021 is
capable of holding this information but it is up to the individual
employees to populate the data, the college has not actively pursued that
this be provided by existing employees. Having run a report on our new
HRIS/Payroll system, of the 740 records: zero have entered a religion and
less than 8% have declared their nationality.

You asked: 2. What is the average length of service?

As per above.

You asked: 3. How many British Muslims have you employed in
communications/media roles since 2010?

Hertford have only created such a role from 2018.  Religion is a protected
characteristic and providing this information about any individuals that
have held these roles would effectively be revealing sensitive data about
an easily identifiable individuals, and would therefore be a personal data
breach.

I have investigated the procedure followed, and the response given. I have
concluded that this response was accurate, in that the College does not
hold the information requested.

As you may be aware, you have the right to appeal to the Information
Commissioner in the case that you do not accept the findings of this
Internal Review.

Best wishes,

Emilie
