Dear Post Office Limited,Can you say if the Post Office looked to recover the cost of prosecuting hundreds of SPM's from the Public Purse and were such claims met?If so what sums were involved?

Dear [email address],Your reply for today seems to concern a diffrent FOI request.Your reply of the 19th suggests costs were awarded against the defendant.Where these convictions have been subsequently overturned have POL returned the costs awarded to it.I am specifically thinking in the case of Lee Castleton"Following the trial, at which Castleton was unrepresented because he could no longer afford a lawyer, he was called a ‘thief’ by the Post Office counsel and was ultimately ordered to repay the £25,000 missing from his office accounts and pay the Post Office’s £321,000 costs." but in all cases what action was taken when convictions were quashed?
Yours sincerely,
john o'sullivan
Dear Mr O'Sullivan,
Thank you for earlier message and for drawing our attention to this. The letter you received today was in response to your query dated 23/12/2022 (FOI2022/00860) which was a request following the responses to firstly FOI2022/00733 (closed 24/11/2022) and then to FOI2022/00785 (closed 23/12/2022). Unfortunately we accidentally sent it under the thread related to the "Recovery of Prosecution Costs from the State" (FOI2022/00823 closed on 19/01/2023) for which we can only apologise.
We will resend the response for FOI2022/00860 to the correct thread.
Kind regards

Dear [email address],Thank you for a reply. Can you say how many individuals without naming them are so described by your answer? Is POL notified when a prosecution it brought is overturned? Is it obliged to contact the wronged party to offer repayment or does the onus fall on the victim to contact yourselves?Do the Courts or BEIS monitor how the return of costs are managed and lastly do you factor in interest payment and malicious prosecution compensation in the settlement offer?
Yours sincerely,
john o'sullivan

Dear [email address],Thank you for a reply. You state that
We are not obliged to proactively contact the individuals in the Overturned
Historical Convictions compensation cases. Your Ms Gallevant 6/7/22 told Sir Wyn"Now, the guidance was introduced on 1 October 2020
18 at which point Post Office wrote to all applicants to
19 the scheme at that stage to communicate that update and
20 the availability of the guidance. "Can you explain the seeming difference in accounts?
Yours sincerely,
