Dear Chris Allen,

I refer to your request for information submitted to Yorkshire Water dated
5 July 2020.

Please find attached the data which you have requested.  Included with
this email are the answers to your questions in red.

 1. There have been recent major works at the bridge on Grange Lane over
the River Dearne on the A633 in Barnsley.  Please identify what these
works were for, the reason the works were necessary and details of the
work/maintenance carried out

The YW main between Broomhill Hill - Monk Bretton had failed under the
River Dearne. This was due to the external pipe becoming corroded at which
point it failed. The water main was then isolated. Due to the location a
repair was not possible. A Capital scheme was raised to directionally
drill under the River with two new water mains and reconnect the new main
to the existing YW water mains at either side of the River. The two new
mains will restore capacity back into the Water supply system.

 2. On 03/07/2020 there were specialist surveyors carrying out a survey in
the fields behind Lang Avenue (location S715LU). Please provide
information on what this survey was carried out for, what problems
were found and what are Yorkshire Waters plans regarding the outcome
of the survey.

The work was carried out by a contractor working on behalf of Yorkshire
Water and Barnsley MBC to clear vegetation and carry out cleaning works to
a ditch/watercourse.

 3. On 03/07/2020 there were 2 vehicles at the pumping station located in
the field at the rear of the houses in Lang Avenue (a Large Lorry and
Yorkshire Water van). Please identify the nature of the work being
undertaken and for what reason this work was necessary.

One of our contractors had noticed the chamber inside our compound
filling. This was a chamber on the Rising main. On investigation, this
happened when just one of our pumps was running. The operator called for
assistance from a tanker to empty the chamber (large lorry). Once emptied
they found the displaced joint just before the non return valve to have
moved, allowing sewage to escape into the chamber. This was contained
within our compound. Further work was planned to resolve the issue on
Friday 10 July. The tanker was in attendance to empty and jet the chamber
if required. The pump was left off as a precaution but was available to
run if required.

 4. Please provide information including minutes of meetings, dates and
outcomes of any meetings with Barnsley Council since the flooding on
Lang Avenue, Barnsley on 08/11/2019 to date.

Meetings have taken place on the 13 January 2020, 29 April 2020 and 5
August 2020.

There are no formal minutes from these meetings, which are quarterly
catch-ups between the organisations. I am however asking colleagues across
the business if there are records of outcomes of these meetings, and I
will respond with this information to your similar question in EIR 263.

I trust that the provision of this data satisfies your request.  In
accordance with the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, if you are
not satisfied with this reply to your request you can ask for an internal
review.  A request for an internal review must be submitted within 40
working days by contacting the Data Protection Team.

Thank you for contacting Yorkshire Water.

Yours sincerely,

Rebecca Dovener
