Recent work on proposed route of A556 bypass

Dear Highways Agency,

In the last two-three days there have been several vehicles and workmen undertaking ground works in fields on the route of the proposed A556 bypass in Mere and in fields in Millington. What is the purpose of this work please?

The Highways Agency is responsible for operating, maintaining and
improving the Strategic Road Network in England on behalf of the Secretary
of State for Transport.  This consists of the Motorway network and the
Major Trunk roads. A map of the roads for which we are responsible can be

network, for example a suburban, local or residential road, you should
forward your email to the relevant Local Authority who should be able to

We are undertaking Ground Investigations surveys along some parts of the proposed A556 Knutsford to Bowdon scheme, which will determine the geology of the area.
