Brian Mottershead, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service

Dear Sir,

Further to your recent request made under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act regarding the cost of providing fire cover during
industrial action, the response from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service
(NWFRS) is as follows:

Questions 1 and 2

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act makes provision for public
authorities to refuse requests for information where the cost of dealing
with them would exceed the appropriate limit, which for local government
is set at £450. This represents the estimated cost of one person spending
18 hours in determining whether the department holds the information,
locating, retrieving and extracting the information. NWFRS estimates that
it will take in excess of 18 hours to determine appropriate material and
locate, retrieve and extract the information in reference to Questions 1
and 2 of your request; therefore, this element of your request will not be
processed further.

Question 3

There have been no occasions when NWFRS firefighting resources have been
unavailable outside of the strike periods as a result of deployment to
strike cover activity.
