Dear Southern Water Services Limited,

due to currently being in dispute with yourselves over an ingress of rats into my property, and resultant infestations of drain flies, maggots and bluebottle flies (which, I hasten to add you are refusing to take any responsibility for), I am requesting information as to how you are currently dealing with rat infestations in the sewer system in the Hangleton area of Hove specifically, and the wider area in general

Dear Mr Evans,

 

Rodent issue

 

Thank you for your email dated 25 September 2017.

 

I have referred your comments to our Investigation Technician, Roger
Williams, and he has confirmed that there is not a general rodent issue in
the sewer system in the Hangleton / Hove area.

 

If a customer has a rodent issue, the process is as follows:

 

o Customer contacts the local Environmental Health (EH) department who
will investigate the matter

 

o If, after investigation, EH determine that the infestation originates
from the sewer, they will send the customer a statement confirming
this

 

o Customer will then contact Southern Water who will raise a job for a
crew to attend to investigate

 

o If the crew find any issues with the sewer which could be causing the
rodent issue, a job will be raised to rectify the problem.

I understand that the rodent issue affecting your property has been
attributed to your private interceptor. We fitted an interceptor cap on
your private pipework as a gesture of goodwill. I have spoken with our
Legal Department who will be contacting you in due course to discuss the
matter further.
