Dear Ministry of Defence,

in what is now called the MoD "Main Building" 8th floor (the floor above where the lifts stop) then did any of the rooms on this floor have raised wooden platform floors at any time near the year 1970.

Yours faithfully,

Roland Rashleigh-Berry

They do not have this information. Is there anyone out there who has worked in the main MoD building and been in one of the rooms on the 8th floor that looks out over the roof? Did those rooms ever have raised floors (due to the window being too high perhaps)? I seem to remember being interviewed in such a room about the year 1970 in the front spine of the building.

I have found this plan of the eighth floor of the building. They mention a "floor void" in the annotations to the right of the plans just above "NOTES"; "Retain vertical water service risers and vertical S.V.P.s and suspended drainage within floor voids". I therefore have to conclude that it had a raised wooden floor at some time and is in exactly the place that I remembered.

Dear DIO Sec-Group Mailbox (MULTIUSER),

Today I found this demolition plan for the eighth floor which seems to indicate a raised floor in some rooms.

Thanks for your help.

Yours sincerely,

I got a report that the link was not working but luckily you can download the demolition plan for the main MoD building eighth floor from here:

Dear Mr Rashleigh-Berry

I apologise for the delay in responding to your email below.

I have been advised that the link you have provided, relates to the post 2001 to 2004 major redevelopment of the Main Building. Raised flooring was put in at this time to facilitate the upgraded IT.

Many thanks
