Railway sleeper numbers

The request was successful.

Dear Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive,

Please would you advise how many railway sleepers and switch and crossing bearers by type (e.g. concrete, wooden, etc) are installed on the Tyne & Wear Metro network annually?

Yours faithfully,

Shamiso Mutukwa

Freedom Info, Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive

Dear Shamiso Mutukwa,

Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act. You asked for the following information:

Please would you advise how many railway sleepers and switch and crossing bearers by type (e.g. concrete, wooden, etc) are installed on the Tyne & Wear Metro network annually?

Nexus only installs new monoblock concrete sleepers in plain line. The extent of new track varies from year to year dependent on various factors. The number of railway sleepers installed in 2016/17 was 10,300 and in 2017/18 it will be 9000.

Nexus installs both timber and concrete bearer S&C. During 2016/17 1 new S&C unit, CV9.25 concrete bearer crossover was installed and in 2017/18 1 new S&C unit, CV 9.25 concrete bearer crossover and 1 CV 9.25 timber bearer RHTO are to be installed.

Thanks
Michael
