Dear Ms Smith,
I am writing in response to your request for information (ref FOI 5561) regarding Marple Station footbridge.
The information has been prepared by the relevant Council service and is as follows.
The application to which this request relates is unfortunately not one which would be subject to neighbour notification and wider publicity by the Local Planning Authority. The footbridge at Marple Station is a Network Rail structure and not one the Council has responsibility for. Hence Engineering Services have never carried out any consultation.
Within the planning system Network Rail benefit from extensive rights that allow them to undertake works without the need for full planning permission. In this respect Network Rail already benefitted from the principle for the removal and replacement of the footbridge by virtue of existing planning legislation. As such the application dealt with by the Local Planning Authority was purely restricted to consideration of the siting and appearance of the replacement footbridge. A copy is attached for your information.
Unfortunately I am not aware if Network Rail discussed their intentions with the local community in advance of carrying out any works.
If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request for information, you are entitled to ask for an internal review; however you must do so within 40 working days of the date of this response. Any internal review will be carried out by a senior member of staff who was not involved with your original request. To ask for an internal review, contact [email address] in the first instance.
If you are unhappy with the outcome of any internal review, you are entitled to complain to the Information Commissioner. To do so, contact:
