Racist Incidents Reported in Tower Hamlets Schools

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Tower Hamlets Borough Council should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Tower Hamlets Borough Council,

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information:

1. The number of reported racist incidents in primary and secondary schools in the borough of Tower Hamlets, please present the data so that it is clear which school it is for.
2. Please indicate if the report was against a pupil or staff. If the information is held, please indicate the race/nationality of the complainants involved.
3. The age of the children involved
4. How many incidents resulted in disciplinary action by the school and in what form was the action taken?
5. I would like a monthly breakdown of information for the last 12 months you have on record and the two years preceding this. If this is going to exceed the time or cost allowance, please start by giving me the last 12 months of data and then go back as far as the cost or time limit will allow.

I would like the information electronically, preferably as a data set e.g. in Excel not a PDF.

If the decision is made to withhold some of this data using exemptions in the Data Protection Act, please inform me of that fact and cite the exemptions used.

If some parts of this request are easier to answer than others, I would ask that you release the available data as soon as possible.

If you need any clarification, then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request, and I look forward to hearing from you within the 20-working day statutory time period.

Yours faithfully,
Jessica Ransom
