Dear Sarah,

Further to your recent request for information, the University’s response
follows.

I am enquiring to find out many reports of racial harassment and abuse
towards students has the university received?

Please see the attached spreadsheet. We have identified and provided the
information from two different sources within the University: records held
by Security and those held by our Compliance Section. The records held by
Compliance reflect the number of reported cases where action was taken
under the Student Disciplinary Procedure. Please note that in some cases,
but not all, the same incident will be reported in both sets of data.

The records held by Compliance may differ from those held by Security
Services for two reasons:

o Not every Security incident report will result in action by Compliance
for a variety of reasons (e.g. the alleged perpetrator was not a
student, the allegation was subsequently withdrawn or the matter was
not sufficiently serious to justify further action); and

o The Compliance Team receives reports of misconduct directly from
students and staff as well as from Security Services.

This completes the University’s response to your information request. If
you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request an internal review of our
decision please contact:

Director of the Vice-Chancellor’s Advisory and Support Department, email :
[1][email address] or by post: Kingston University,
River House, 53-57 High Street, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1LQ.

In the event that you are not content with the outcome of your complaint
you may then apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. Generally, the Information Commissioner cannot make a decision
unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by Kingston
University. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:

The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

I hope that you now have the information you require.

Cathy
