Question about waste: how many cancelled tickets are printed each year?

East Coast Main Line Company Limited did not have the information requested.

Dear East Coast Main Line Company Limited,
I ordered a ticket on thetrainline.com and then cancelled it before I travelled. I requested a refund, as per their procedure.
I had purchased more than one journey and they were all grouped under the same booking number. I used the other journey as planned.
When I printed the ticket I needed, it also printed out the cancelled ticket. Luckily, I did not throw this away, as I would not have been entitled to a refund if I had.
This is a monstrous waste of paper printing a travel document the issuer KNOWS I do not need or want.
I would like to know how many such tickets are printed each year and how much card and ink is being wasted in the process.
It concerns me that we are constantly berated to be greener, to recycle, to reuse, to use less, and yet potentially thousands of tickets for cancelled journeys are being printed specifically in order that they can be thrown away.
Please tell me how many cancelled tickets are being printed on your service each year and what is being done to cut this monstrous waste.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,

Emma Freeman
