Dear Emily,

Thank you for your email of 16 January.  Please see the below response
from our technical team:

•       Please confirm or refute whether this well has a permitted release
point for methane and or other VOCs • Please state whether all the methane
and other VOCs from this well is released to the atmosphere or whether any
methane is collected in any way.

o   Under the current environmental permit there are a total of 8
emissions points to air. Emission point A3 relates to a vent stack from
the oil storage activity and permits the venting of Methane and VOCs to
atmosphere. However, the main disposal route for the rest of the produced
gas generated at the site is through the power generator and flares rather
than venting to atmosphere.

•       Please indicate the volume of methane released to the atmosphere
by this well in 2018 and 2019 in either tonnes or m3. Please indicate the
volume and type of other VOCs released here • Please confirm whether the
Environment Agency or the operator measures the volume of release of
methane from this well?

o   The quantity of gases (CH4 and VOCs) released through this emission
point was calculated as 20.5 tonnes in 2018 and 11.16 tonnes in the first
6 month of 2019. Monitoring returns for the second 6 months in 2019 are
not due yet. These values are calculated based on crude oil processed and
gas/oil ratio.

•       If the volumes are not measured, how are they estimated?

o   These values are calculated based on crude oil processed and gas/oil
ratio.

•       Please state whether the Environment Agency is using optical
imaging cameras as this site to detect releases of methane.

o   The Environment Agency has not used an optical imaging camera at this
site to detect releases of methane.

•       If so, what are the results from the cameras?

o   See answer to above question.

•       Please state what techniques have been used to attempt to abate
methane releases at this well.

o   The produced gas at this well site is combusted, either through the
generator at the site or the flare. There is no abatement on the emissions
from the storage tank through the vent A3.

•       Please indicate how this site complies with the Environmental
Permitting Regulations which require operators to minimise emissions.

o   We have enclosed the decision documents for the permit issued on
29/06/2007 and the subsequent variations issued on 18/02/2008 and
02/04/2009 These documents detail how the requirements to control, and
(where this cannot be achieved) minimise, emissions to the environment
are to be met through the permit.  Please note that a variation to this
permit is currently in determination to bring the site up to the standards
stated in our Onshore Oil and Gas Guidance.
