Queries and appeals against TMA scores

The request was successful.

Dear Open University,

Please outline the process for re-marking of assignments under the current queries and appeals against TMA scores process once the documentation has been passed to the delegate authority, including how much weight is given to the tutor's comments against an independent unbiased marking of the student's work.

Please provide information on the percentage of assignments which have been regraded in the student's favour in the last five years under this system.

Dear Ms James,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request about queries and appeals against TMA scores.

Information on the process for students to follow can be found at
http://www.open.ac.uk/students/essential...

and the guidance for staff dealing with TMA appeals is attached.

We do not have any written procedures for the re-marking of assignments once the documentation has been passed to the delegate authority. Under the Freedom of Information Act, an authority does not have to create information in order to answer a request, so I am sorry I cannot provide anything further that is held that would answer the first part of your request.

You also asked for the percentage of assignments that have been regraded in the student's favour. At the final stage these are:
2008 42.6%
2009 19.5%
2010 24%
2011 23%
2012 20%

Please note that 2008 and 2009 were recorded differently in our systems.

I hope you find this information useful. Should you have any queries please contact this office again.

Yours sincerely,

Beverley Midwood
