Quarantine under Covid 19 Regulations.

Archie Douglas made this Freedom of Information request to Police Scotland

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Police Scotland,

Police Scotland were advised of breaches of quarantine laws under the Covid 19 regulations. A report was submitted to Police Scotland about someone who had been entering the UK from Spain and failing to comply with quarantine rules. The officer who responded to this advised that Police Scotland were not responsible for enforcement of Covid 19 quarantine laws . He stated the local authority was the body who would deal with this.

Information obtained from The Scottish Government was that Police Scotland was the body responsible for enforcing Covid 19 quarantine laws.

1) What training do police officers have in Covid 19 regulations surrounding quarantine laws?

2) What is the Police Scotland's policy of enforcing these?

3) How many fines and/or arrests have been made by officers in Police Scotland for breaches of Covid 19 quarantine laws from the date these came into being until 28 February 2021?

4) Is it the policy of police officers to give the public incorrect information to avoid having to take up these cases?

Yours faithfully,

Archie Douglas

Dear FOI Edinburgh,

Thank you for your response of 16 April 2021.

It is of concern that a police officer in Dumfries told someone that enforcement of quarantine laws under Covid regulations was the responsibility of the local authority. That was a dishonest response clearly. This person reported a person for failing to comply with quarantine laws repeatedly yet the police officer took no action, he didn't even speak to her. It is no wonder that the public have no confidence in Police Scotland.

Yours sincerely,

Archie Douglas
