QMUL Dentistry BDS Admissions Preliminary Cut-Off Scores and Policy for 2020 Entry (A200)

The request was successful.

Dear Queen Mary University of London,

I'm writing to enquire about the statistics for the preliminary screening cut-offs used for the BDS Undergraduate Dentistry course (A200) for entry 2020, as entitled under s1 Freedom of Information Act 2000. I understand that QMUL had already decided these by, at the very latest, 11th December 2019. QMUL have stated these were based 50/50 on UCAT score and 'academic score'. I kindly request:

1. What was the minimum requirement for the UCAT score?
2(i). How was the academic score calculated?
2(i). What were the minimum requirements for the overall academic score and, if based on multiple aspects, the minimum requirements for each component?
2(iii). If a graduate applied, what were their minimum 'academic score' requirements? Again, if multiple; what were the cut-offs for those?
3. What were the overall cut-off scores for undergraduates and graduates?
4. How many spaces are/were available for the 2020 entry course?
5. Were there limited spaces within this total number reserved for graduate applicants?
6. If so; in the case where a graduate meets the standard undergraduate entry requirements but not the graduate's, what is the policy on using the former instead?
7(i). Was anything else used for the preliminary minimum requirements leading to the cut-offs?
7(ii)If so; what were they?
8. Is there a policy document available, used by the admissions team to guide their decisions, that you can provide?

If you need further information from me to help with the request as per s1(3) and 1(4) Freedom of Information Act 2000, please let me know and I will provide it.

Yours faithfully,
Michael Narouz

QM FOI Enquiries, Queen Mary University of London

Dear Michael Narouz

Thank you for your email of 10th January.

I am pleased to provide the following responses.

1. 2281 (3rd decile range)

2.i. Applicants who achieve an overall score within the third decile range
or above in the UCAT and meet our minimum academic entry criteria will be
given a score for their UCAS tariff based on achieved/predicted grades for
all ‘tariff able’ criteria or a weighted score for graduates based on
degree classification. Candidates will be expected to have achieved or be
predicted a UCAS tariff of 152 or more. 152 points must be achieved from
the main scoring academic acceptable criteria. 50% of the weighting will
be on Tariff and 50% on the UKCAT score.

2.ii. Please refer to our entry requirements on the website
[1]https://www.qmul.ac.uk/smd/undergraduate...

2.iii. A 2.1 degree and please refer to our entry requirements on the
website [2]https://www.qmul.ac.uk/smd/undergraduate...

3. 2281 UCAT & 2.1 or A*AA and more; please refer to our entry
requirements on the website:
[3]https://www.qmul.ac.uk/smd/undergraduate...

4. 71 (67 Home & 4 Overseas)

5. Not particularly, note it’s predominately an undergraduate course but
open to graduates as well.

6. Graduates who meet our minimum academic criteria are ranked against the
other graduate applicants applying in that year according to 50:50
weighting applied to the UCAT score and academic ability as measured using
a points weighting of degree classification. We do not consider A/AS
levels or any other qualification when considering graduates other than to
ensure they meet our minimum requirements of sufficient biology/chemistry
etc.

7.i.  No.

7.ii. N/A

8. Please visit our website
[4]https://www.qmul.ac.uk/smd/undergraduate... and the
