Environmental Information Request
Dear Ms Brammah

Thank you for your environmental information request. Please find our
response to your questions below in red.

1. Has any complaint been made of this pumping station concerning the
smell of sewage? If so, please provide the nature and extent of the
complaint.

We have 3 recorded complaints regarding Odour on our system. Due to the
Data Protection Act  we are unable to release this information as it will
readily identify a living individual without their consent.

2. Has any surcharge of sewage occurred at this pumping station or its
environs? If so, please provide details, including remedial action taken.

There have been no surcharges from the SPS.

3. In order to prevent sewer overflow, at what invert level within the
pump well is each pump set to activate? What AOD is the current design top
water level? Is this below the lowest private lateral and what is the
different in level?

·         Duty pump Start: 0.85m

·         Duty pump Stop: 0.60m

·         Assist Pump Start: 1.30m

·         Assist pump Stop:0.60m

·         Level AOD: 1.15m

4. What is the volume of emergency storage capacity for this pumping
station within the public sewer network assets? On how many occasions has
this been exceeded in the past 8 years? What emergency overflow pipes and
Environment Agency discharge consents are or have been in place for this
pumping station?

If this site was to fail, the storage (spill) time is 6hrs. This has not
been exceeded from what we can see. There is no discharge consent.

5. What remote monitoring systems and emergency callout systems are in
place to ensure that well water levels are continuously monitored; that
pumps are fully operational at all times; and that any system failures are
promptly attended to?

The site has a telemetry system that is monitored by our control centre
24/7. If the level goes up past the normal level in the well the wet well
high float would alarm out to alert us to attend the site on a 2hr
emergency response job. We have a team on standby to respond to this at
all times.

6. How often is the machinery of this pumping station serviced? What
operations are undertaken during such maintenance?

Planned maintenance is carried out every three months. This includes
testing the alarms, checking the pumps for blockages and general
housekeeping.

7. Has any blockage been reported in the public sewer pipes leading to
this pumping station? If so, please provide details of such blockage(s)
and of actions taken to clear them and to prevent them in future. Is there
a regular programme for cleaning the pipes and, if so, please provide
details. If not, what are the criteria for implementing such a programme.

Dear EIR Requests,

I refer to your response dated 4 November, which I believe to be incomplete and incorrect in certain respects.

You state that the there has been no surcharge from the SPS. The question included the SPS and its environs. There are at least 3 reported incidents of foul sewage surcharge from the SPS in 2014, 2018 and 2019 causing sewer overflows at the closest lateral. Please review your records again and respond in terms of the original information request.

The pump well invert levels and AOD top water levels in your response cannot be correct. The ground level at the pumping station entrance is 101.38m AOD and therefore the design top water level in the well cannot be 1.15m AOD. Similarly the invert levels for pump activation cannot be close to 100m below ground level. Please provide correct data. The original question also asked for the difference between the AOD design top water level and the level of the closest lateral, so please answer this question.

Yours sincerely,

S Brammah
