Public Play Facilities Expenditure

Samuel Lubrano made this Freedom of Information request to Blaby District Council as part of a batch sent to 381 authorities

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Blaby District Council,

The Association of Play Industries (API) has previously carried out FOI research to establish the extent to which public play areas are being retained, increased or reduced. We would like to update this research with a view to lobbying central government for funding. To that end, we would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act:

1. The amount expended in fiscal year 2019 (including any remaining forecasted spending) on public outdoor play facilities including capital, revenue and maintenance costs.
2. The amount budgeted to be spent in fiscal year 2020 on public outdoor play facilities including capital, revenue and maintenance costs.

Yours faithfully,

Samuel Lubrano

Blaby District Council

Freedom of Information Mailbox, Blaby District Council

Dear  Samuel,

Freedom of Information Request – FOI-20-87

Please find enclosed a response to your Freedom of Information request.

1. The amount expended in fiscal year 2019 (including any remaining forecasted spending) on public outdoor play facilities including capital, revenue and maintenance costs.

Blaby has had no direct Capital expenditure on Playgrounds in 19/20, however we do provide grants from S106 monies for such works.

As at the end of Jan we had spent £157498 on these grants and were waiting for Parishes to submit requests for a further £127,312 for projects.

Due to the nature of these grants, we have no idea what will be applied for in 20/21 financial year. Again, Blaby has no planned Capital expenditure on playgrounds.

2. The amount budgeted to be spent in fiscal year 2020 on public outdoor play facilities including capital, revenue and maintenance costs.

We are unable to separate out the budget for Play facilities from the total parks and open spaces budget.

The total budget for Parks and Open Spaces is as follows
2019/20 - £742,970.00
2020/21 - £761,995.00
