Powys Teaching Health Board did not have the information requested.

Dear Powys Teaching Health Board,

I trust this note finds you well. I am looking to obtain data pertaining to the utilisation of hospital capacity within the PtHB due to a Covid19-related illness. Specifically - for the period 23rd March 2020 to 16th October 2020, by day:

* The number of beds classified as "set aside" for the purposes of treatment for those patients with a positive Covid 19 test (all methods, inclusive of PCR and Antibody)
* The day-to-day number of those beds that were occupied by said patients
* The total number of critical care beds available
* The day-to-day total of those beds that were occupies by patients of all relevant illnesses.

Your assistance is much appreciated as I am currently researching this topic as part of a wider statistical analysis of the Welsh Government's response to the Coronavirus Crisis. Moreover, I also feel it important that these data are allowed to be scrutinised in the public domain in order to provide the necessary context around the effectiveness of the so-called non-pharmaceutical interventions being used for purposes of disease control. As such, I trust that this request may be handled according to the rights conferred by the Freedom of Information Act.

Yours faithfully,

Gareth Howell

Dear Mr Howell,

Further to previous correspondence, I can confirm we are currently processing your request, however we require some clarification from you before we can issue our final response, this is detailed below. Once we have received this we will be able to issue our response. Please note that until this is received the 20 day clock has stopped and will re-start upon receipt of the clarification.

Clarification:

Can you confirm if you are looking for the number of bed days or the number of patients admitted per day?

Dear Powys FOI (Powys Teaching Health Board),

Thank you for your quick response. This is a fair question - apologies for this not being clearer in my request.
I'm looking to generate view of utilisation over time, as such the best of the two metrics you refer is "bed days", though appreciating the challenge of gathering the data, the latter option (patients per day) may also be useful.

Yours sincerely,

Gareth
