Psychiatric help in prisons

We're waiting for Freya Hanson to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear HM Prison Service,
I am currently writing an article on psychiatric help in prisons and would love to get some more information and/or statistics on the following questions:

- What kind of psychiatric help is provided in both high risk and low risk prisons?
- For prisoners who are seen to be eventually set free what kind of help are they given and how effective is it?
- How many prisoners who receive help before being released reoffend?
- How many prisoners on average receive help after they have been released?
- How much money goes into psychiatric help or help given prior to prisoners being released?
- Are prisoners less likely to reoffend if they receive help before being released?
- Are prisoners who are released from high risk prisons more likely to reoffend that those who were previously held in low risk prisons?

Yours faithfully,
Freya Hanson

Dear HMPPS.Correspondence,
I am writing to you again with the clarification you requested in your last letter.
To begin with in terms of 'psychiatric help' what I am interested in is the support available in prisons to support prisoner’s mental health as well as specialist mental health services and treatment programmes both within prisons and outside after the prisoner has served their time.
In terms of "how effective it is" I am wanting to know the information for both self-certified and how this is reflected in reoffending rates.

And finally when I refer to “high risk and low risk” prisons what I mean is category A prisons to category D prisons.

Again thank you for your help, I have inserted my initial questions below to look back on in reference to the clarification.

1 - What kind of psychiatric help is provided in both high risk and low risk
prisons?
2- For prisoners who are seen to be eventually set free what kind of help are
they given and how effective is it?
3 - How many prisoners who receive help before being released reoffend?
4 - How many prisoners on average receive help after they have been
released?
5 - How much money goes into psychiatric help or help given prior to
prisoners being released?
6 - Are prisoners less likely to reoffend if they receive help before being
released?
7 - Are prisoners who are released from high risk prisons more likely to
reoffend that those who were previously held in low risk prisons?
8 - Do female prisoners or male prisoners statistically receive more mental health support both in prison and outside once completing their sentences.

Yours sincerely,
Freya Hanson
