Dear Noel Ryan (IMS),

You have refused my request under section 40(2)of the FOI Act by virtue of sub-section 40(3)(a)(i).

I am afraid this section of the FOI Act does not apply to my request.

I requested the name of a Head of one of your departments - The Professional Standards Unit. This information is recorded as this is a department of a government organization and this information should be readily available to the public upon request.

It seems strange that you are unwilling to provide it.

I would now also like to know the salary band of this 'middle-ranking' civil servant.

I look forward to your reply

I requested

Yours sincerely,

CA Purkis

How very strange. The ONLY government department that refuses to give me the name of the Head of their department. Even stranger - that I called the department several minutes ago and the young lady on reception, upon hearing my name, refused to give me any further information! Now - how on earth would the PSU in Manchester know what my FOI requests are? All very insidious.

Dear Home Office,

In an era when most organisations require their staff to wear some form of 'name badge' this really does sound like simple reluctance to comply with the law. Hardly transparent.

CA Purkis left an annotation ()

You are absolutely right Alan - but I fully intend to follow this request all the way. The Personal Security Unit of the Home Office - oops typo - I mean Professional Standards Unit are really quite silly to ignore this. One of their Inspectors once told me that its ALL ABOUT GOOD COMMUNICATION. such a pity they do not follow their own advice.

Dear Noel Ryan (IMS),

Further to my Freedom of Information request and my request for an internal review.

As you have refused to supply me with the name of the Head of the Professional Standards Unit - a department of the Home Office, could you confirm that the name of this person is nowhere on public record, as are many of the heads of departments of the Home Office are.

If this person's name is on public record, then you are required by law to provide me with their name.

Could you also give me a reason why the name of a head of department in a government body is not available to the public?

Yours sincerely,

CA Purkis

CA / Alan, this is exactly the point. McDonalds workers are far lower "low level" workers, yet all wear name badges. So I really don't see how such arguments can be made. IE: The Home Office redact information lines such as:

"21. Any policy enquiries on this notice should be addressed to Serena Bryant (0151 213 4443)

Jonathan Devereux Assistant Director
Head of European Operational Policy"

Despite all of the information on these lines being nothing to do with the personal information scope. EVEN THE PHONE NUMBER, as it is the phone number for Serena Bryant's office, and not her home phone number: This means that it is a publicly owned telephone number.

They even redacted the EuropeanOperational email address until challenged about it. Nice to see that that information is now released though.

The ICO have clear guidance on what constitutes personal information. The Home Office have clearly not read this guidance.

Dear FOI Requests,

Further to my internal review, I would like the telephone number of the Head of the Professional Standards Unit. The direct line telephone number at the Home Office.

Yours sincerely,

CA Purkis

the request for the telephone number is a new request for them to refuse. it will then be passed onto the same person to agree with their assessment that the telephone number constitutes their personal info, despite being a govt building telephone extention. its all a scam really.

Take a look at J Hussain agreeing that my requests are vexatious., he seems to be the one who responds with such info...

What happened to the law? The law where we are entitled to recorded information?

Wayne Pearsall left an annotation ()

The Home Office are above that law. They make their own law, as they see fit. and if a law doesnt suit them, they decide to ignore it...

I say we should all head on over to Ireland and claim asylum before Theresa starts flying the Swastika.

Its time the Madam May was challenged - legally. How many decent people are going to be affected by this - families and couples etc, while she cites the 'criminals' as being the reason for this change. I think she was extremely embarrassed by the Abu Quatada affair and is using this to take away our Human Rights.

Dear FOI Requests,

Thank you for the information provided Mr Ryan - I really appreciate it.
Finally could you confirm that the Head of The Professional Standards Unit's name is not anywhere on public record?
For example - the Report that was issued after the Louise Perrett story was commissioned by Hugh Ind and conducted by the Professional Standards Unit. Could you tell me what Mr Ind's position is?
